Jesse Porter lived in this house until 1833, when he built a new home on the "Cole lot." His first house may have previously been the home of Preserved Porter, Jesse's father.
Jesse had inherited a third of his father's house in 1803. His brother Isaac gave Jesse his third of the house in 1813, and Jesse may have purchased the final third from his stepmother at an unknown date. By the time of her death in 1821, she was living with other relatives.
