In 1800, Peter Mason, a Negro Man belonging to ...
Waterbury, traveled to Salem (Naugatuck) from Waterbury
and disrupted the service being held in the Meeting House.
He was found guilty of Rude and Indecent behaviour
and was fined $1.25.
The 1810 census shows Mason was living in Salem with four
other African Americans, presumably his family.
